If Not
2009-12-03

Could never get over
the look on her face.
The way she might taste
if I could forgive her
a place to waste away with hate.
I dared not, should not, would not
take a breath unlaced.
From the seams so seemingly misplaced
should I, would I, if only erased
the secret keepings Ive disgraced.
Will I take me there tonight?
A right Ive hidden from the world, so slight.
If not by morning, tonight.
Tonight.
Take her back and make her fight
for one so bitter, too burdened to play.
What was I left to whisper away?
If not tonight, today.
Today.
